Review

The Way of Kings

by Brandon Sanderson

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Preface: I KNOW, none of the books in this picture is The Way of Kings.. I let someone borrow it (who lives 6 hours away 😜) I keep telling myself "books are meant to be loved not hoarded" but it still hurts a little to have a favorite so far away.

Anyway, here's the review:

I STRUGGLED to get past the first 100 pages of this book. It’s my brother's favorite book of all time, and he gifted it to me for Christmas. It made it that much harder for me to get into it. Anyone else do this too? As soon as there’s pressure to love a book, I suddenly have no desire to read it.

I’m so glad I persevered - this book has joined the ranks of my top 10 books of all time and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the books in this series and all the other books by Brandon Sanderson.

It starts off slow, building the world of Roshar and introducing you to TONS of characters. Game of Thrones worthy amount of characters. Each chapter is a different point of view, and this initially contributed to my slow start. I didn’t enjoy 1 or 2 POVs and would just put down the book when it got to them. But please please PLEASE keep going. You won’t regret it. Every point of view was my favorite. I couldn’t put the book down because I was impatient to get back to Kaladin’s Bridge Four, or learn more about Dalinar’s internal struggles. I wanted to dive into the very books Shallan was reading and maybe even eat some bread and jam (or maybe not). I am eager to read the next book to see where these lives lead. If you’re into epic fantasies, this is the book for you.

PS. As soon as I read the last page, I texted my brother “THE WAY OF KINGS?!??!!” (Because surely that’s explanation enough right?) and immediately thought about turning back to page 1 to reread. I know I missed so many small details in the beginning when I wasn’t introduced to the history yet or some characters to fully understand every Easter egg. This will definitely be a reread in my future.
